Writing

Calista Marsh is a Creative and Professional Writing Major at La Trobe University. She has a focus on diverse writing and universal story-telling.

Calista specialises in writing short-stories, poetry, long-form fiction, and screenplays. In her work she depicts the darker side of humanity, while also bringing new life to voices which have previously been silenced. Most of the time, however, she spends exploring everything fantastical, whimsical, geeky, and fictional.

Calista was raised in rural Victoria where the most popular activities were going on long drives and gossiping about your neighbours. Calista preferred the vibrant company of her imagination, creating new worlds wherever she went. One day, she started writing about those worlds, entering childhood book-week competitions, and began passionately pursuing a career in writing.

When Calista’s not writing or lost in her own thoughts, you’ll find her with too many cats, a good book, and deadly amounts of coffee.

Taylor Manton is an emerging author that has been published through children’s writing competitions on multiple occasions, and is set to graduate from La Trobe University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Creative Arts. Taylor is the proud artist behind Tea Time With Taylor, his project for the 2019 Creative Arts Festival at La Trobe. Having dabbled in both fiction and nonfiction, Taylor is decidedly more in the camp of writing fictional short stories, scripts, and novels. Taylor draws heavily from his own experiences and the experiences of those close to him in his work, and this can be seen in his festival entry.

Mitchell is a novelist, poet, and scriptwriter from Melbourne.  He writes poetry, develops scripts, writes fiction and journalism. Mitchell has acted as a contributor and writer for Hysteria Magazine, New and Brave Records and Mycitylife.
He is a die-hard horror film fanatic and a mental health activist.

Joseph Chapman is a performing artist, producer and writer.  His many talents include stage production, writing, voice-over and live performance.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Acting) and is completing a double major in Writing and Screen.  He has a passion for all aspects of stage production, and is equally at home whether in the spotlight, or being the creative genius behind the scenes.
Joseph’s work, Australians Are Arseholes explores the other side of Australian’s perception as outsiders.  This non-romanticised online poem uses an insult or phrase that’s been said or used by various people outside of Australia.  The rest of each verse tells the truth and subverts these points of view.
There is a tendency to glamorise the outsider image.  This poem explores the alternative and tries to say that, whilst it isn’t a bad thing to be an outsider, it’s not necessarily going to be accepted by other people.

Screen

Born in Brisbane, I have lived throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania. Through my early childhood of moving and exploring new places, I developed a passion for travel, visiting Japan in 2014 and South Korea in 2019.
I am the eldest of six siblings, and I am very grateful for the support from my large family. Everyone has done their part to help me in some aspect or some way in my life.
After finishing high school I moved from Launceston to study in Melbourne. Moving to a place without any family, fresh out of school, was a struggle. I didn’t know anyone and didn’t know the city. However, in studying a double major in Screen and Writing I was doing something I loved and looked forward to the moments when I could visit family.
I am an aspiring novelist who explores stories from other cities and countries, and have worked on short films including as assistant director and production manager. A script of mine was turned into the short film Colpevole, currently in post-production, and I enter writing competitions to gain exposure and to further develop my creative writing.
